Thank you for visiting my site. My name is Ryan Bautista. I have been in and out of photography since the early 80's and worked with 35mm film. I wish that I could say that I've had impressive experience with cameras like Leica and and Hassleblad, but alas they are but a dream.
I believe my first camera was a kodak 110 or 220 roll camera and then went to a Polaroid instamatic camera. Then came my father's Minolta X-700 35mm SLR with the impressive array of three lenses that he had. During my college years I took the camera with me and was able to shoot fraternity, scenic and even had my first "model" shoot with a student that was running for homecoming court!
I really didn't know what I was doing even then, but had a lot of fun doing it! During greek week in college one of my fraternity bothers challenged me to a "shoot off" with is all automatic camera verses my all manuel camera. In the end, most of my photos were entered into the fraternity newsletters as well as other publications. At that point I realized that it's not what you have, but how you use it! This event was a turning point in my photography hobby which became a passion.
The last few years I progressed into digital starting slow with a Sony DSC-P5 to the P10 and then the Canon Pro1, 20D and now the 40D. Digital has been fun for me, but I still love the film cameras. I still have 2 Minolta Hi-Matic range finders that I occasionally use!
Today, I try to look for inspiration from everything that I see. Everything I have done so far has been through research I have done on my own through reading and observation. I do not have any awards or formal training in photography or graphic arts, but I do have encouragement from the people around me. My family and friends have been great support. By far, Jen, my girlfriend has been my biggest fan and also my most patient model to which I greatly appreciate. I hope that you enjoy my site and I hope to work with you in the future.
